I love olives.
Black, green, red olives. Spanish, Italian, Greek olives. Olives in salads, pizzas and martinis.
What I have never, EVER tried though, is picking an olive from a tree and eating it.
I have eaten olives in many places, in many ways, with many friends, but the experience of eating an olive fresh off the olive tree is one of the things that would make my life complete.
There’s other fruits I’d love to eat fresh from their tree one day too, like apples, guavas, coconuts and pineapples. I’ve eaten mangos, limes and peaches from my backyard. and the experience changed me. I felt a connection with the Earth, by the act of picking the fruit and eating it with my bare hands, and it felt much more nutritious.
Viva la Pacha Mamma!

I LOVE olives too and Mandola’s Italian Market (off 45th and Guadalupe) has the BEST olives! They are so good, but I definitely think you have a point with the idea of eating an olive fresh off the tree. I would really like to do that!

I never used to like olives that much, but they are starting to grow on me. Now that it’s on the list, I feel like I HAVE to! Thanks, Raquel!

MMMmmm…olives are one of my favorite foods…up there with sun dried tomatoes and artichokes. Kalamata are my absolute favorites. Pasta, pizza, salads, paninis, calzones, you name it! In fact I just ate a delicious pizza from Austin’s Pizza with some Kalamatas on it. Deliciosa! If you figure out where to eat a fresh olive, I’m there. It is now officially on my bucket list.

In France. Olive trees grow everywhere here but I’m pretty sure there’s a lot in California too…
But I’m serious. You may think you want to but really, you don’t. It was the most disgusting flavour I’ve ever tasted in my life. I couldn’t even eat the whole thing. It’s a joke here. When North Americans come to France, the french suggest that they try an olive right off the tree and then they laugh hysterically when someone falls for it.

Wow, how interesting! That’s funny that the French do that hahaha I would totally fall for it. Thanks for the tip, though I’m a curious cat and still want to try one, just to know what it tastes like… where in France are you now?
