#105 Try to Two-Step

I cannot believe I haven’t done this one yet! This is probably one of my favorite things to do and will never say no if someone asks me to go. I am definitely not a pro or anything, but I just love to two-step, waltz, half-step; you name it, I’ll TRY it!

This is one of those dances that I think every true Texan, or visitor to Texas, should try at least once to say that they did it. And you have to get the full effect of going to a honky tonk bar with lots of smoke and you must have a beer, I’d recommend Bud Light! (My beer of choice.)

I already did a blog about two-stepping for an earlier class project because I am just a big supporter! I know a lot of people do not know how, but it’s really pretty easy. Keep reading to watch a video I found a while back to help teach the basic two-step.

Here’s a video that’s a little more advanced and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do!

So if you get a chance to hit some hardwood floors, I recommend Midnight Rodeo on Ben White, the Broken Spoke on South Lamar, Dallas Night Club on Burnet Road or the legendary Gruene Hall in New Braunfels. Most of these places have nightly drink specials and most even offer two-stepping lessons earlier in the evening, but completely worth it for when you want to get out there later on! (After a few of the $1.75 wells settle in though, of course!)

  • Mal how Texan of you! I totally love dancing and whenever I get a chance to cumbia I go for it! I haven’t tried two-step before though, and it looks like so much fun! The videos you posted make me wanna go dancing… did you know there’s a group of people that waltzes every Thursday at the Women’s Club Federation on San Gabriel St. and 24th? I’ve never gone, but I hear it’s a lot of fun!

  • I haven’t heard of that, but I’m going to look it up right now, actually! That sounds fun!

  • I’ve seen those people doing the ballroom dancing at the Womens Club Federation. IT reminds me of that movie, Shall We Dance?, with Richard Geere and Jennifer Lopez. Dancing like that is so *sigh* romantic. Find me a date, Malorie, and I’ll go!
