I know this sounds so obvious, but letting a candle melt over itself, and then melting other candles on top of it, and melting more and more creates a beautiful work of art that can decorate any corner of your room with color and a beautiful aroma. It’s a surreal kind of art really, sort of like the melting clocks in paintings by Dali. And really you would just be imitating mother nature, who does this naturally by performing works of stalactite or stalagmite art.

You can also try making a candle yourself, like they suggest here that you do in teacups. It looks neat! AND it only takes 5 steps.

1. Clean your cup.

2. Place the wick.

3. Heat the wax.

4. Let it sit.

5. Presto!

#12: Do it Yourself!

No, I’m not talking about the kind of jokes you heard in “The 40-Year Old Virgin.” I’m talking about good, old-fashioned, elbow-greased do it yourself projects! I’m not the most crafty person in the world, but seeing the sort of things people post on the ‘net really inspires me to get off my bum and be creative!

Have you heard of moocards? They’re fun little cards that you can order with your pictures on them. I think they’re the greatest thing since sliced bread. This tutorial shows you how to make your very own Moo-gnets, or moocard magnets!

Also, I’ve seen the solar-powered, sun-in-a-jar, warm fuzzy goodness that is the SunJar featured on many cool modern design store websites, but I always thought to myself… isn’t $40 a lot to pay for a glowing Mason jar, however AWESOME it may be? Well enlist your double E major friends to help you with this one… I imagine lining a bunch of these on your windowsill at night or putting them in your garden!

Finally, some eye candy from my favorite blog, Design*Sponge. D*S is chock full of DIY projects for you house lovers, but I am thinking about doing this to put over my couch in the living room. Your face in the foyer? Amazing.

Happy creating!
