Our parents have warned us about talking to strangers and that’s good if you’re 8 years old. But as an adult I encourage you to talk to strangers. Make friendly conversation with the person standing in line at the grocery store. Talk to the guy you always see at the bus stop. If you’re not comfortable saying hello at the least give a friendly smile and/or make eye contact. Who knows, your smile may have brightened their day and then they will want to start talking to you.
Why was that guy in the red walking around 6th Street with a parrot on his shoulder? Well, I don't think he really answered that question but he knew a lot about that bird.
From my experience, talking to strangers yields the most interesting stories. People like talking about themselves and most of the time you come away with some really interesting stories. So don’t be afraid. Just start up a conversation with someone you don’t know and see what you get.
