#42 Get in the Car and Drive

I don’t know what it is, but there’s something about getting in my car and just driving around Austin that relaxes me.  If I’m really stressed out or can’t seem to focus I get in my car, turn the music up, maybe grab a latte, and hit the road.  I may not drive more than 15 or 20 minutes, but that’s all I need.

I have a little route that I like to take, too.  I usually head out from west campus to Lamar, take Lamar all the way down past the river, then make a right on Barton Springs road take it until I reach Mopac, then make my way back.  I also like going down Lamar, then turning around and heading back on South Congress.  I always seem to be drawn to these areas of town.  There’s so many unique shops and restaurants that you probably wouldn’t have realized were even there unless you went out on the town.  Of course don’t forget about the Austin skyline (though some people may not like it that much, I think it’s pretty cool).  Most of the time I take these drives at night, when the city is a little more relaxed, there’s less people on the road and everything is lit up.

I guess I’m just addicted to the freedom of the open road…lol!

So since I’ve told you about this unique stress reliever of mine, I’m curious, does anybody else like doing the same thing?

And for your listening pleasure, some tunes to drive by.

I agree with this 100%! Back in high school, my best friend would come over around nine, we could get all-dressed up, hop in her eclipse, crank up the radio, pull back the sunroof and drive aimlessly until about midnight when we realized that nothing was going on.
With gas prices these days, it’s a little bit harder, but just cruisin’ around with my friends is definitely one of my favorite things to do!
